Burglar Bars Not Just For Burglars

The driveway of every Hollywood movie mansion begins with an elegant gate slowly swinging open. I had an opportunity recently to chat with a local artisan whose business specialises in steelworks and the making of these specialised gates as well as other customised products.

Robert Arthur is the owner of Benergy Steel Creations located at Campaign Castle, St George. When asked how his interest in this area was sparked, he recounted that his father owned a business and he helped out. Eventually, he worked at Sagicor and at the shop in parallel. One landmark job he recalls was his first spiral staircase, designed and implemented some time ago. The masterpiece still exists in a church building he attended.

“As my father got older, I decided to manage the business full time, “he stated. That decision was taken three and a half years ago.

Business Challenges

In terms of any business challenges he has faced, he laments that while there is skilled labour in the market, it is difficult to find the right combination of skill and work ethic. Robert is currently upgrading his workshop to help fill this gap by offering training and apprenticeship opportunities.

If you are like me, you are only aware of one type of material used for wrought iron products; this is known as mile steel. However, Mr Arthur advised that galvanise steel, aluminium and stainless steel are also available as well as different paint applications based on your budget and the likelihood of rust.

One of the distinguishing features of Benergy’s work is their approach to meeting customers’ requests.

Beautify Your Property

Says Robert, “Gates are designed based on the architecture of the property and the personality of the owner. “  In fact, one of Robert’s customers is known as the lady with the fancy green gate.  The company produces gates, burglar bars, furniture, staircases, fencing, and handrails for both residential and commercial locations.

“People focus on burglar bars to keep burglars out but I want people to know that they can also be used to beautify the property. You can open your doors and still be safe. ”

So what may we expect from Bendsteel in the future? Basically, a revolution in the steelworks business! Mr Arthur desires a physical retail space so shoppers can see what products are available. That is not all. I would like to capitalise on social media to give customers an online interactive shopping experience. He also wants to employ technology to modernise the work process, using machines which would allow for great speed, efficiency and variety in the products used.

When asked what he wanted people to know about the business he said “I want persons to know I can give their home an identity.”  Be assured, Benergy Steel Creations can make your property stand out.
